Course Description (Waunspe Oyakapi): Students will achieve learning primarily by applying the principles of medical word building, content reinforcement, and achievement of basic competencies. Online learning tools enable students to evaluate their understanding of medical terminology, based on the requirements of this course. The course materials and content emphasize the meaning of basic medical terms and demonstrate how these terms are used in the healthcare environment.
Course Goal: Medical Terminology prepares the nursing candidate student to learn and understand the language of medicine. Ideally, the student will take N224 Anatomy and Physiology (A&P) concurrently, and medical terminology will reinforce A & P content. The student will be able to use medical terminology in the appropriate contexts when proceeding through nursing courses.
Course Rationale: The purpose of this course is to assist the nursing candidate student to understand basic medical terminology used in upcoming nursing courses. The course is intended to increase understanding and interpretation of medical information encountered during nursing courses and clinicals.
