Course Description (Waunspe Oyakapi):
This course is an introduction to academic writing in college. Students will practice the skills and documentation needed for effective academic writing. Emphasis will be placed on the writing process: a well-developed thesis, clarity and coherence, sound development, the ability to relate careful analytical reading to effective writing, and elimination of major grammatical errors. By the end of the course students should be able to express their ideas persuasively and clearly.
Course Goal:
The goal of this course is to teach students how to write an essay expressing their ideas persuasively and clearly.
Course Rationale:
This is a lower division English I course appropriate for all college students, based on requirements that reflect both rhetorical styles and composition method. This course will provide a solid base of information on English grammar, punctuation, rhetorical methodology, and paragraph structure, thesis statements, transitions, and organization, as well as other skills, which can be applied in future study and employment.
